Action guide "Repertoire for the holistic assessment of learners"

Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are leading to more and more digital and individualized offerings in the education sector, such as adaptive learning opportunities or recommendation systems for the most tailored training and further education offers possible. It is of central importance to know the initial situation of those who are interested in these offers. KARL therefore offers a collection of relevant characteristics for the holistic identification of the initial situation of current and future learners.

Target group

The tool is aimed at two different groups of people who may be interested in determining the initial situation of learners:

1) Programmers of digital learning offers who are enabled by this KARL offer to program an AI-supported web tool that enables users to learn in an individualized way with a learning system.
2) Persons who advise and support learners and those seeking (further) education in their search for suitable offers, for which the recording of relevant characteristics represents a starting point. These people can also be programmers of chatbots that are supposed to advise those seeking education.

Expected result

By asking specific questions and consulting relevant sources of information (e.g. CV, certificates, ...), users of the tool can determine the initial situation of learners in a structured and holistic manner using the categories presented. The document is intended to support programmers in selecting the right questions when programming their application (e.g. a chatbot or the adaptive component of a customizable learning system). Instead of an abundance of questions, they should be able to select a few targeted questions. Counselors are also supported in determining the initial situation of those seeking (further) education using the right sources of information and targeted questions.

General conditions

No special requirements.

Operating instructions

The overview of the "Repertoire for holistic assessment" provides users with an overview of the relevant categories for determining the initial situation of learners. They are also given the opportunity to record the respective categories using various sources of information. Different sources of information may be relevant depending on whether an assessment is to take place as part of career guidance or subject orientation or as part of the individualization of a learning course. Therefore, the categories do not have to be recorded in the order shown, but can also be processed individually as required and only the relevant sources of information used. Users can use the hyperlinks inserted in the overview to jump to the relevant place in the tool. The query options listed there can be checked for their suitability for the individual application and adopted.
